Exploration Leads To Automation
Currently, we are facing a worldwide problem – the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone has felt the effects of the virus but, over time, we have made progress in the field of research and medical technology and more is yet to come. To overcome this situation, scientists have developed new equipment and devices for treating the symptoms of COVID-19.
On 2nd October 2020, I wrote an article for the awareness of the people, explaining how government and medical workers all over the world work, day and night, to control the outbreak of COVID-19 whilst risking their own lives. The government is doing its job by regulating curfews and enforcing SOP’s while, scientists are working around the clock to develop a vaccine to finally put an end to this pandemic.
Researchers at Purdue University are working on a Biometric Smartwatch which can easily, and accurately, detect COVID-19, early. It is generally believed that heart rates and breathing rates are disturbed due to the entrance of Coronavirus; because they are the main symptoms of COVID-19. Smart-watches in the market already have a lot of physiological data but, incorporating features such as heart rate variability and changes in respiratory rate may help detect COVID-19 at an earlier stage. However, this will require much more research and development. It is for this reason that the smart-watch devices are not used to fully diagnose a patient with COVID-19 in clinics and hospitals. Many more devices are currently being invented that can help in the diagnosis of this virus.
